The Infusion Nurses Society holds the belief that nursing is a unique art and science. As such, nursing must continually evolve to include new theoretical knowledge and technological advances. The specialty practice of infusion nursing requires a unique body of knowledge that must be maintained through continuing education. INS believes that education programs geared specifically toward infusion nurses are mandatory to keep nurses abreast of new practices and technology. As part of our educational mission, we develop educational programs that improve the quality of infusion care, and disseminate the content of those programs through various media.
INS also believes that nursing research is imperative to the advancement of the specialty. Infusion therapy practices may be influenced by advancements in other healthcare disciplines, therefore, nursing research should be based upon scientific principles that involve empirical and controlled studies. Nursing research may validate current infusion nursing practices or lead to new innovations in infusion care delivery. Thus, nursing research is an integral part of nursing education.
INS is designated as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation and by the California Board of Registered Nursing.
