Emergency Medicine, Critical Care, and Anesthesia Ultrasound Course:
Cutting-Edge Applications for Point-of-Care Ultrasound

This course will address emerging applications for point-of-care ultrasound with a focus on critical care, anesthesia, and emergency medicine. Emphasis will be placed on procedures (vascular access and ultrasound-guided regional anesthesia), thoracic ultrasound (for pleural evaluation of interstitial pathology, pneumothorax, pleural effusions, and thoracentesis), and the integration of point-of-care echocardiography into symptom-based evaluation of the patient (hypotension and dyspnea). INS is pleased to offer two complimentary Online Symposia for continuing education credit: The Role of the Infusion Nurse in the Treatment of Psoriatic Arthritis, sponsored by a continuing nursing education grant from Centocor Ortho Biotech, and The Role of the Infusion Nurse in Caring for and Treating the Patient with Multiple Sclerosis, co-sponsored by the International Organization of Multiple Sclerosis Nurses and the Infusion Nurses Society and supported by a continuing nursing education grant from Genzyme.

INS will award 0.8 contact hours of continuing nursing education credit and INCC will provide 1 CRNI® recertification unit for participation in each of these online educational programs, which were originally presented at the 2010 INS Annual Meeting & Industrial Exhibition in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

The American Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACN), a national organization of professionals that represents more than 500,000 nurses who care for acute and critically ill patients, has announced its endorsement of the Infusion Nurses Society's (INS) official position on intraosseous (IO) vascular access.
