Maintaining excellence, staying current. CRNI® recertification requirements are designed to enhance continued competence and ensure certificants receive exposure to all three core areas during each recertification cycle, keeping nurses current on innovations and changes in infusion nursing.
Document 1,000 hours of clinical infusion therapy experience within the previous three years (bedside experience not required; education, admin, research, or clinical practice all count).
1,000 hours over three years equates to 6.5 hours/week — roughly 18% of a 36-hour week.
Earn 40 Recertification Units (translating to 80 contact hours) within the three-year window.
Recertification by Exam
CRNI®s recertifying by exam must pass the exam during their final certification year (year three), using the most current version based on the latest job analysis. Applications open in the certification’s final year via the CRNI® online profile. Choosing exam forfeits the CE route.

Can I earn the RUs I need online?
Yes. Explore Virtual Infusion Education in the INS Learning Center. RUs earned through these activities count toward the INS Meeting requirement. To recertify through continuing education, you need 40 RUs during your three-year certification cycle, including at least 30 INS Meeting RUs. You must also submit a recertification application and fee in the final year of your cycle. Infusion Nurses Society
Where can I find the CEs and RUs I earned from an INS meeting or virtual program?
Log in to the INS Learning Center, open My Dashboard, and select Transcript/Achievements to view your completed activities and certificates.
How can I check my CRNI® RU total?
Log in to your INS account. Under Certification, select Certification Management, then More Details. Look for Total Internal (Meeting) RUs and Total RUs Obtained.
If recently completed Learning Center activities do not appear in your certification profile, keep your completion records. INS says those RUs are reviewed and added to the certification record after you submit your recertification application and RUs for approval
