By Jannifer Stovall, President, Infusion Nurses Society
As I step into the role of President of the Infusion Nurses Society (INS), I do so with deep reverence for the leaders who have come before meāthose who have laid a firm foundation of clinical excellence, professional integrity, and compassionate care. They have elevated the profession through a steadfast commitment to evidence-based practice and have demonstrated unwavering grace, poise, and inclusiveness. Their example is not only inspiring, it is our charge to continue.
My journey to this moment didnāt begin in a boardroom or a hospital corridor. It began in the small town of Coldwater, Mississippi. As a little girl, I was raised by a mother who made one thing very clear: the world did not revolve around me. Instead, she instilled in me a deep belief that my life should be used to uplift others. I was taught that my gifts, talents, knowledge, and resources were meant to inspire, encourage, and help people. Nursing has allowed me to do exactly that.
Nursing has given me the privilege to live out my heartās passion for people. And infusion nursing, in particular, has expanded my perception of what a nurse is, what a nurse can do, and what a nurse can be. This specialty has pushed me to think differently, serve more creatively, and care more deeply.
INS makes me smile. INS makes me proud to be a nurse. Why? Because INS continues to push infusion to the forefront of health careāelevating our specialty, setting standards, and uniting nurses from all settings and backgrounds.
The message of nursing has not changed: we are advocates, caregivers, educators, and collaborators. But the method of how we do nursing must evolve. In todayās rapidly shifting health care landscape, we are called to embrace innovation, welcome nurses from all areas of practice, and integrate tools like artificial intelligence to better serve those who rely on us. The next generation of nursesādiverse in background, experience, and perspectiveādeserve a profession that sees them, supports them, and empowers them to lead boldly.
My vision as president is simple: to blend our voices. To create space for dialogue that spans generations, specialties, and systems. To ensure that infusion nursesāwhether at the bedside, in a clinic, an academic classroom, or leading at the executive tableāare aligned in our mission to elevate care, influence policy, and shape the future of health care.
Let us move forward, not by forgetting our past, but by building upon it. Together, we will carry forward the heart of nursing while opening doors to new possibilities, new technologies, and new partnerships. Let us lead with purpose, respond with agility, and always remember the power of unity in our profession.
This is our momentānot just to reflect, but to rise.
