COVID-19

 Lived Experiences During COVID-19

Nurses in the United States and around the world have answered the call to care for patients infected with COVID-19 in every imaginable setting, including hospitals, home care, outpatient clinics, long-term care facilities, and testing sites. All nursing roles, including direct care staff, managers, nurse educators, and researchers, make a difference in the lives of patients, healthcare colleagues, and in the community. INS is honored to recognize your contributions, as well as your personal and professional experiences, during the COVID-19 pandemic. Thank you for your courage, compassion, dedication, and all you do each day! Supporting Superheroes

During COVID-19, Supporting Superheroes is offering free coaching to anyone supporting the COVID-19 efforts. This is not an attempt to sell you anything, and all sessions are confidential, online and flexible. Volunteers have years of experience supporting executives who operate at the top of their game, even under stressful conditions. Supporting Superheroes believes that right now, nurses deserve all the support they can offer. In times of crisis, stress is normal. However, an ongoing crisis like what we are seeing now can push people from stress into exhaustion, burnout or collapse. Skillful coaching can help people in the game.

If you believe coaching could be useful to you or others in your organization visit www.supportingsuperheroes.org.

A Moment for your Mental Health

APNA has made valuable resources available at no cost, to help those coping with stress during this difficult time. Managing Stress & Self-Care During COVID-19: Information to Nurses, APNA’s info page, has been recently updated based on feedback from member experts on nurse stress & trauma. The information directly addresses the firsthand stress, moral distress, and trauma that nurses are experiencing right now, especially on the frontlines, including a section on how to seek help. Click here for more info.

Mindfulness in the Workplace: Practical Application is a relatively short session that may be helpful to people who are managing their busy home and work lives. It offers .5 contact hours as well. This free resource is available here.

Frequently Asked Questions related to COVID-19 Health Care Challenges

INS acknowledges the plight of the public, our members and valued colleagues, as we work collectively to manage the many concerns associated with COVID-19. Many are asking if INS is able to give “new guidance” regarding modification for adherence to the INS Infusion Therapy Standards of Practice. While we are presently unable to recommend modifications to the established standards of practice (e.g., extend dressing change intervals, extend administration set change intervals, etc.), we recognize the challenges many are facing due to the limited number of caregivers and the scarcity of supplies.
